Where are rubies found?

Rubies were already sought after in ancient times as a sign of prosperity. Then the most red gemstones came from Myanmar. Today the supply from that country has strongly decreased and the main sites are now in South-East Asia, Australia, India and Brazil. Countries like Afghanistan and Pakistan still have large reserves, but due to their political instability, these currently remain largely untouched. Rubies (mostly pink) are also found in Sri Lanka.
