What colour is a ruby?

Very simple: ruby red! Rubies exist in several variations, from rare and costly pink to red-brown gemstones. But when people refer to the colour 'ruby', they definitely mean deep red. Rubies are formed deep under the Earth's crust when the colourless mineral of corundum cools down and crystals are formed. The presence of chromium provides the typical red colour.
