How is a sapphire formed? Where do sapphires come from?

Millions of years ago, the magma 40 to 50 kilometres under the Earth's crust began to solidify, which caused minerals there to form crystals. Blue sapphires formed where iron occurred in the mineral corundum. The highest quality sapphires come from Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Kashmir. They are also found in Eastern Australia, China, Thailand and East Africa.
