What is the girdle of a diamond?

The girdle of the diamond is the transition from the crown to the pavilion, or from the top to the bottom. Its width is expressed from extremely thin to extremely thick, but is ideally somewhere in the middle for maximum strength and aesthetics. This is particularly important for an optimal setting with a diamond ring.
