What is a black diamond?

Black diamonds are natural diamonds, but are less hard than coloured and non-coloured versions. Brazil, the Central African Republic, and South Africa to a lesser degree, are the only places where black diamonds are to be found. They are therefore very rare.  Unlike other natural diamonds that are formed deep under the Earth's crust, scientists suspect that black diamonds come from a meteorite that struck the planet millions of years ago.
