They remove a section of metal from the ring band and solder the ends together again. After polishing and buffing, the ring fits your finger perfectly and looks as good as new. A ring can be reduced three sizes at most: too much quality is lost with a greater modification. Only rings set with diamonds all the way round can't be made smaller.
