From designing jewellery on paper, to designing through 3D software. From turning sheets of gold into rings, to using various innovative techniques to make fine jewellery. Today, the world of jewellery creation seems to be in continuous movement and is considerably changing the way ladies' jewellery is being manufactured. To the point where in the past couple of years, researchers have actually found ways of making jewellery from air pollution by using giant air purifiers.

How does an air purifier work?

An air purifier is essentially a machine that sucks in the pollution and releases the filtered air through special vents. A purifier can clean more than 30,000 cubic meters of air per hour by using no more electricity than a water boiler.

We know that air purifiers per se are not new inventions, but there is a particular one that was created by a Dutch designer named Daan Roosegaarde which has been used in a very innovative way. In fact, after a few years of research, Mr Roosegarde managed to build a very special tower-like purifier with the idea in mind of transforming the recuperated pollution into modern ladies jewellery, including original square rings.

How is jewellery made from air pollution?

This particular air purifier captures the smallest particles, the ultra-fine smog. And once the tower-like purifier has collected these piles of remaining black powder the designers turn it into rings by compressing the powder. Each ring produced through this technology actually holds as much pollution as 1000 cubic meters of city air.

Initially it was even thought of using this technology to produce diamonds with the tiny black particles. But unfortunately, diamonds would take way too much energy to produce so it remains practically impossible at this stage.

This technology is a wonderful example of the creativity and innovation that exists today and how ladies' jewellery can be manufactured in the most unexpected ways.
