Diamonds have long been symbols of luxury, beauty, and rarity. The mines of African countries are renowned for producing some of the world's biggest diamonds. Let's take a closer look at this extraordinary find, along with the unparalleled quality of diamonds and where to acquire them.

The discovery of a lifetime counting 910 carats
The Letseng mine, located in Lesotho, South Africa, is now the proud origin of this monumental discovery. Owned by the British mining company Gem Diamonds, this mine has yielded a diamond with an astonishing mass of 910 carats. This exceptional stone now ranks as the 5th largest diamond globally, following the 995-carat Excelsior and the 969-carat Star of Sierra Leone — the third and fourth largest diamonds in the world.
According to Ben Davis, an analyst from Liberum Capital, this extraordinary diamond is estimated to be worth approximately 33 million euros. The diamond's exceptional purity and quality signify that it might soon grace the collections of elite connoisseurs or become the centrepiece of the world's most luxurious jewellery.
Diamond mining and the Letseng diamond mine
Diamonds are formed under extreme conditions and require skilled extraction from deep within the Earth's crust. African mines, especially those in South Africa, have a rich history of uncovering these precious gems. The Letseng diamond mine stands out for its consistent production of large, high-quality diamonds.
The Letseng mine is one of the highest-altitude diamond mines in the world and is renowned for producing some of the largest diamonds ever found. The recent discovery further solidifies its reputation as a significant source of rare and valuable stones.
The art of acquiring quality diamonds: the 4Cs
When purchasing diamond jewellery, always consider the famous 4Cs — carat, colour, clarity, and cut. These metrics determine the true value and quality of the diamond. A high-quality diamond should excel in these four areas to ensure it delivers both beauty and value.
