rough

1. Rough diamond

Every natural diamond you see today was formed over 3 billion years ago, deep within the Earth's crust under conditions of intense heat and pressure. A unique process whereby carbon atoms crystallize, resulting in rough diamonds. Little precious stones, accessible from only a few places in the world. Rough diamonds undergo a process known as diamond cutting and polishing, each with its unique cut and design to enhance the diamond's true brilliance and fire - a testament to the extraordinary beauty found within nature.
planning

2. Planning the perfect cut

Every decision made in the diamond cutting process impacts its ultimate value. The initial planning stage is the most time-intensive, it can sometimes last up to a year before a single change is made to the rough gemstone. Experienced craftsmen use cutting-edge technology to examine a diamond’s unique characteristics, in order to determine the best way to cut it and reveal its true beauty and sparkle.
polishing

3. Polishing the diamond

When a diamond is extracted from the earth, it has a naturally rough and unrefined surface. Diamond polishing is carried out by skilled craftsmen known as diamond cutters. The cutters expertise is crucial as it demands precision and attention to detail to maximize the diamonds value, as even the slightest miscalculation can affect the diamond's overall beauty and value. Polishing involves removing imperfections, shaping the diamond, and creating precisely angled facets that allow light to enter and reflect, resulting in its signature brilliance and sparkle.
grading

4. Grading the diamond

Diamond grading is the evaluation of a diamond's quality based on the 4Cs: carat weight, colour, clarity and cut. Gemological laboratories and diamond graders assess these factors to determine the diamond's value and rarity. Diamond certificates provide a detailed analysis of a diamond's characteristics and serve as a reliable reference for consumers, helping them to make informed decisions when purchasing a diamond (jewel). All diamonds at BAUNAT are graded by IGI, GIA or HRD the three most world-wide known independent laboratories.
