What does a ruby look like?

A ruby is a gemstone with a characteristically deep red colour (with variations from pink to red-brown). Therefore, it is regarded as the gemstone of love and passion. While sapphires occur in colours other than blue, all rubies are red. The appearance of a ruby is also determined by the cut. Rubies are cut to a rounded shape, or an angular shape with facets.
