Are More Couples Choosing Engagement Rings for Both Partners?

The tradition of engagement rings is evolving, with more couples embracing the idea of both partners wearing symbols of commitment. This trend, known as "mengagement rings," gained momentum following the legalization of same-sex marriage in the UK in 2014 and has seen a 66% increase in search interest over the past year.

For those interested in matching engagement rings, options include classic diamond solitaires, eternity rings, and half-set rings. Men who prefer subtlety can wear half-set rings with the stones facing inward. The rise of unisex designs in 2024 offers versatile styles that transcend traditional gender preferences.

Not every man wants to wear an engagement ring, though. Alternatives include luxury watches and bracelets that still symbolize commitment while matching personal style preferences.

Whatever you choose, these dual symbols represent a mutual commitment—acknowledging that engagement is an equal promise between two people.

Where does the trend of engagement rings for man and woman come from?

The trend of engagement rings for man and woman came from the United Kingdom. Engagement rings for men, otherwise known as 'mengagement rings', have been popular for a while. Last year the frequency of the search term 'male engagement rings' increased by 66%. The popularity of the male engagement ring began its rise with the legalisation of same-sex marriage in the United Kingdom in 2014. And now the custom is becoming ever more common among heterosexual couples.
I have never understood why men don't wear engagement rings. It is the same commitment for both partners.
Buying an engagement ring for both partners does not replace the need for wedding rings. There is clearly a difference between engagement rings and wedding rings in terms of both symbolism and appearance.

For a number of decades now, Belgian designers have been recognized as world-class. With Brussels as the capital of Europe, different cultures mixing in a small country of an extremely rich heritage, Belgium is the perfect home for creative talent.
Devotees of luxury, fashion and design connoisseurs love to visit Antwerp and Brussels in order to discover new talent or keep up with established Belgian names.

Belgium’s fashion scene came under the spotlight in 1987 during the London Fashion Week thanks to the so-called Six of Antwerp. Six young designers were granted total freedom by the Antwerp Fashion Academy to redefine the given trends. The result was to be found on revolutionary catwalks and eternal fame for the six designers. One of them, Dries Van Noten, was declared the ‘International Designer of the Year’ in 2008. The imprint of the Antwerp Six’s creative spirit lights the path for today’s talented and successful Belgian creators.

The Antwerp duo Wouters & Hendrix were also showing at the 1987 London Fashion Week. As was the case with their local counterparts, their presence brought on international success and collaboration with many great fashion designers.
Wouters & Hendrix relate well to BAUNAT’s philosophy, and were highly enthused by the opportunity to design a collection of high-quality diamond jewellery in white gold, yellow gold, red gold and platinum. You will find the results of this collaboration in the NathuJafoOuverture and Medaillon d’Anvers BAUNAT designer collections.

As BAUNAT is based in Antwerp, centre of fashion, it was decided to work exclusively with Belgian designers, including Wouters & Hendrix, Anne Zellien, Elisa Schepens, Elke Peeters and others. BAUNAT has a close relationship with the Flanders Fashion Institute and stimulates young and established talent to share their thoughts and collaborate on future designer collections.
