The Marquise cut, according to legend, is a truly royal cut, the development of which was probably commissioned by the legendary Louis XV of France. However, this fact has not been historically verified. With a Marquise cut engagement ring, attention is guaranteed, because it is as unusual as it is fascinating.

What characterises the marquise cut in diamonds?
The elongated shape of the diamond is also truly flattering to the finger. It visually lengthens the finger and is therefore suitable for both delicate and slightly stronger and wider fingers.
Which variations of engagement rings with a marquise diamond exist?
Very often you will also see variations in the form of an entourage or halo ring, where the marquise diamond at the centre is surrounded by an equally boat-shaped halo of small diamonds and possibly combined with an additional diamond-set ring band.
This type of ring has a particular feature: the pointed corners of a marquise engagement ring are very exposed and therefore susceptible to impact. In a marquise solitaire ring, the setting therefore usually reaches completely around the corners to protect them. This visually striking detail, which is not disturbing, can be cleverly concealed with additional small diamonds.
What are the features to look for in a Marquise engagement ring?
Furthermore, all elongated facet cuts have a somewhat controversial optical effect called "bow tie". If the diamond is cut a little too thick in the midsection, in order to save valuable material when processing the rough diamond, the light can no longer penetrate and be reflected at the correct angle. This area then appears black and looks like a fly.
In very small amounts, the effect can contribute to the character of the diamond and its appearance. As soon as it is stronger and extends over the entire width of the diamond, it only appears unsightly and distracting.
Good planning and the necessary skill of the cutter can minimize this effect. The process is highly complex because the position of inclusions and the shape of the rough diamond must also be taken into account when cutting the diamond.
Every diamond is different. If you want to buy an engagement ring with a marquise diamond, you should get comprehensive advice in advance. This way you will find a diamond of high quality that meets your requirements.
