• Which metal to choose?
  • How to choose the right size?
  • What is a carat number?

Conventional customs of the past dictated that a couple had to spend three months of their salary on the purchase of their wedding rings. Nowadays, two months of salary per ring on average is usually what a couple is willing to pay.

The secret behind the price to pay for your wedding ring is to make sure you are comfortable with what you spend and that you like the selected ring. So the first step is to give yourself a maximum budget not to exceed.

1. Pay attention to the type of metal

Check the jewellery your partner already wears; she might like yellow gold, rose gold or prefer a white metal, like white gold, or platinum. The cost of the wedding ring varies depending on the type of metal you choose; platinum is the most expensive metal followed by gold.

2. The clarity of the stone

A well-cut diamond will have facets like mirrors. The clarity of the diamond is assessed by looking at the gemstone under magnification, which reveals tiny signatures that look like fingerprints that show how a diamond was mined up and processed.

The most recognised and commonly used system for determining the clarity of a diamond was created by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). A flawless diamond shows absolutely no inclusion and is considered very rare.

3. The colour of the gemstone

Colour is also an important factor in determining the value of a gemstone. In general, colourless diamonds are the most expensive except in the case of very rare colours such as blue, pink, red, yellow, green and brown. Read this article to get 3 tips on purchasing a diamond wedding ring.

When it comes to the colour of the diamond, grade D is the most expensive because it is rated as exceptional. The colour of a grade J diamond is slightly yellow-tinged; this grade will be cheaper. Read our article on how BAUNAT wedding rings that go with engagement rings.

4. The number of carats

The term carat refers to the weight of the diamond, not the size. Because of the size of the diamond, a stone may look much larger than a stone that is actually denser and therefore has a larger carat. In addition, as large stones are much rarer, a single 2 carat diamond will cost much more than two diamonds of one carat.

5. The type of ring

And what about the wedding ring itself in all this? Here too, you will have to choose from several widths, although in general 4mm with a thickness of about 1.5mm is mostly preferred.
