The pavé setting is most commonly used with small diamonds in a row. This setting positions the gemstones very closely together and barely any precious metal is visible on the diamond ring. The many diamonds in a row result in a brilliant shine, as a result of the small precious metal prongs which keep them in place.
A castle setting is a type of diamond setting which is similar to pavé, but with the difference that the small diamonds are visible from the side as well. This pattern looks from the side like the battlements of a castle, hence the name.
