• The origin of the bridesmaid tradition
  • Suggestions for suitable bridesmaid gifts

Bridesmaids, who today are often lifelong friends and sisters, provide valuable support to the bride on her big day. The tradition of bridesmaids dates back to the Middle Ages; originally, they served to distract and confuse evil spirits away from the bride. For this reason, the bridesmaids' dresses, which were exclusively unmarried, were chosen to be as similar as possible to those of the bride. Although this concept is, of course, outdated nowadays, every bride is happy to have friends to help her with the preparations and it is therefore customary to give all bridesmaids a very special gift before or after the wedding. Whether it is a small gift bag or classic diamond earrings, there are many nice options to reward the bridesmaids appropriately, depending on the budget.

  1. Giving bridesmaids' dresses as a gift: if you, as the bride, have bought the bridesmaids' dresses, they are usually non-returnable after the wedding and therefore make a good gift.
  2. Gift boxes: prepare a small gift box for each bridesmaid. A particularly nice example is a personalised wooden box with a photo of you and the bridesmaid stuck on the lid, together with a small inscription.
  3. Accessories: these can be hair pins, special shoes for the bridesmaids, bracelets or other small gifts that will be worn at the wedding.
  4. Jewellery: do you want to give your bridesmaids a very special reward and give them a really valuable gift? Jewellery, like diamond earrings, express your appreciation like almost nothing else.
  5. Keepsake bouquets: unlike bouquets of flowers, keepsake bouquets are made of artificial flowers, felt, small accessories and costume jewellery. They never wilt and are a wonderful reminder of the wedding.
  6. Hair and make-up: Do you want to do something nice for the bridesmaids before the wedding? Treat them to a trip to the hairdresser or get someone to come and give you and your bridesmaids a professional makeover.
  7. Don't forget the flower girls. You can't forget the little bridesmaids who diligently scatter flowers. Age-appropriate gift bags are the perfect reward.
  8. Perfume: give your bridesmaids a fragrance that will always remind them of the beautiful wedding day you spent together.

No matter what you give your bridesmaids, be it diamond jewellery, such as diamond earrings, or a small gift, the most important thing is that it comes from the heart. A handwritten card with a few personal words, a souvenir photo together; it's the little details that make the gift special.
