American Gem Society (AGS)

The AGS was founded in 1934 by a small group of jewellers. This organization wanted to protect the public from fraud and misleading advertising. It is an educational institution for gemmological studies. AGS Labs were created primarily to develop and promote universally-accepted standards for gem grading. Now, approximately 3400 jewellers, retailers, suppliers and entrepreneurs are affiliated with AGS. They focus on protecting the consumer, ethical trade and keeping their superior skills and knowledge of the diamond world up to the highest standards.
