Keeping your engagement rings in a safe place
When you are not wearing your engagement ring, you need to make sure it is stored in a secure place. Ideally, engagement rings need to be individually stored in their own little box to protect them from being scratched by other pieces of jewellery.
Then you should keep the box along with other pieces of jewellery and valuables in a fixed location, so that you can always easily find it. Engagement rings may also be kept in a proper safe, especially if you intend to leave your ring unworn for a long period of time.
Getting your engagement ring checked by a jeweller
This is particularly the case if you have a prong set diamond engagement ring, because over time, when worn on a regular basis, prongs can get damaged.
If you do not wish to see your beautiful diamond lost, you need to have your ring checked by a jeweller every now and then to make sure the diamond remains secure and that the metal hasn’t chipped anywhere.
Removing the ring for certain activities
Many women tend to think that because their rings are made of metal and they are high quality, nothing will ever happen to them and they will stand the test of time throughout the decades. Unfortunately, this is not the case.
There are certain activities that can be very damaging for engagement rings and for which you really should remove them. For example: all regular activities that involve chemicals or dirt, such as house cleaning or gardening. Another example some people do not think about is when going to the gym or playing sports, it is really better to remove the ring to avoid any damage or even losing it.
Cleaning it regularly
It may seem like an obvious thing to do, but it appears that many people simply do not clean their jewellery and engagement rings as regularly as they should. A lot of dust, dirt and residues easily accumulate over time. Therefore, it is important to either have your jewellery cleaned by a professional or clean it yourself. You can do so by simply soaking your piece of jewellery in warm water with some mild soap and then scrubbing it gently with a soft toothbrush.
